Dorit Chrysler is one of the few names that should follow any mention of the theremin. She is founder of the New York Theremin Society; frequently performs with mainstream artists such as Dinosaur Jr., Marilyn Manson, the Strokes, and Amon Tobin; and, quite simply, she is a master of the instrument. She gave a demo for the audience during the Moogaplex panel discussion, "Journey to the Center of the Theremin."
The Moogaplex is an interactive exhibit space at Moogfest where festival attendees can play & experiment with many variations of Moog instruments. Moog even brought out the rarely seen Polyphonic Theremin, which features 5 pitch antennas, creating sound spaces where the player can control up to 5 different timbres at once. Moog fans might remember Chrysler's April Fool's demo from just a few months ago. If you missed it, check it out at the bottom of this page for her "Stairway to Heaven" rendition). Pretty, pretty, pretty good.
This performance was captured on Sunday, October 30, 2011 at The Moogaplex in Asheville, NC on the third and final day of Moogfest by The Tuned Inn.
