Passion Pit: Remixed

The electropop originals go from angst to ‘80s through eight stand-out remixes

Passion Pit is no stranger to producing catchy tunes. After producing his first songs as a Valentine's gift to his girlfriend (at the time), lead singer Michael Angelakos was joined by the four other members who now compose the group. With hits like "Sleepyhead," "The Reeling," "Moth's Wings,” and "Little Secrets" to their credit, they have a firm footing in the world of electropop.

Their sound, which incorporates traditional guitar and keyboards with heavy synthesizers, bumping baselines, kitschy samples, and the stunning vocals of Angelakos is impossible to ignore. It grabs hold of you by both ears and refuses to let go.

In the world of electronic music, producing a stellar track is only half of the game. While the original is often the best, some might say the true test of a song lies in its ability to be remixed. Many of you may be familiar with original Passion Pit tracks, so let's explore some remixes that may make you fall in love all over again.

Little Secrets (Jack Beats Remix): This bass-heavy, techy version of the original offers a much darker take on the song. It's perfect for those who love Passion Pit but might be feeling a little angry or melancholy.

The Reeling (Miike Snow Remix): Think Passion Pit meets a Russian Circus. Yes, I'm serious. Get your popcorn and cotton candy ready and send in the clowns.

The Reeling (Calvin Harris Remix): “The Reeling” is about to get funky. Add equal parts Passion Pit and funk-inspired bass, garnish with minimal keyboard additions, and you'll have yourself the perfect cocktail for gettin' down.

The Reeling (Shuttle's Super Club Mega Mix '99): "I wonder what ‘The Reeling’ would sound like as a club banger?" you ask. Well, now you know. This baseline is filthy, the claps are sharp, and the roller-coaster peaks and valleys will build you up and break you down over and over again. You'll love it.

Sleepyhead (Starsmith Remix feat. Ellie Goulding): Time to slow it down (tempo). The vocals of Goulding are the perfect addition to this version of the song. The melodies are spot on and the bass has been scaled way down, making this the perfect song which with to end your evening.

Sleepyhead (Neo Tokyo Remix): This is one of my favorites. Disassemble “Sleepyhead,” then chop, swirl, and reassemble. It's everything you love about the original version and more. It's like hearing it again for the first time.

Sleepyhead (Cassette Club Remix): Imagine that Passion Pit traveled back in time to recreate this track 25 years in the past, perhaps while a little depressed. Love the ‘80s? Then this is the version for you.

Sleepyhead (Le Chev Remix): Another ‘80s inspired version but more upbeat and funky than the Cassette Club version. Think of it as a (re)mixed drink, with subtle notes of passion fruit and disco overtones.

If you've enjoyed any or all of these remixes, don't stop here. There are plenty more of them out there just waiting to be discovered. You can share them with your friends, or just let them be our little secret.

Just remember while you’re listening to all those remixes, there’s nothing quite like a live Passion Pit show. They’re performing at Moogfest on October 30, so do whatever you have to do to be there. This is one Halloween experience that will be 100% treat.
